2024 Vocational education and training reforms
Closing date: 12 September 2024
These changes are poised to fundamentally shift the landscape of Vocational Education once again. If you work in the unit standards space, please read up and give your thoughts to the proposal. Also, feel free to send some thoughts to [email protected] while TENZ writes our own submission.
Waihanga Ara Rau Vocational Education and Training (VET) Reforms Webinars
Waihanga Ara Rau have been helpful enough to schedule webinars that can support anyone in the Vocational Education space to understand more about these changes.
The Government’s proposals for the vocational education and training (VET) system have significant implications for the future of New Zealand’s workforce. This includes how people are trained, along with attracting talent into the construction and infrastructure sector.
Supporting you in responding to the reforms
We aim to make it easy for you to communicate your thoughts to the Government and choose the best option for you. We will achieve this by:
- Working with you and others across the construction and infrastructure sectors to help develop a joint submission so we can present a united front to the Government.
- Encouraging individual responses from organisations and employers. We’ll support you with information and resources to help you with this.
The consultation commenced last week, and all feedback on these options needs to be submitted to 2024 Vocational Education and Training Reforms – Ministry of Education and by emailing [email protected] by 12 September 2024.
Informational Webinars
Our GM Assurance, Mike Grumball will host short webinars that provide more information about the proposals and our initial take on the options based on what industry has told us they want and what happens next.

The long-term consequences make the consultation period a crucial opportunity for you, as a secondary or tertiary provider, to heavily influence workplace training and career progression for years to come.
Your voice really matters
VET providers are key contributors to building a strong and productive workforce, and construction and infrastructure are critical sectors for New Zealand. VET starts in secondary schools and pathways into industry. The Government wants to hear from secondary and tertiary providers about what is working, what is not working and options for change. It also wants input from businesses, industry associations, learners and people working in construction and infrastructure.
One-on-one chat
