Te Poutāhū recently confirmed the availability of the redeveloped NCEA Level 1 standards and paerewa paetae for use starting in 2024.
The final versions of these standards have been shaped through contributions from schools and kura involved in the 2023 NCEA pilots, as well as through the expertise of the NZQA and NCEA Subject Expert Groups.
The development of these NCEA achievement standards, incorporating the principles of mātauranga Māori and inclusive design, signifies a crucial advancement in secondary schooling. These efforts are geared towards fostering more meaningful learning experiences for young learners. Notably, the restructured approach ensures that each NCEA subject and wahanga ako has fewer, but larger, standards. This strategic arrangement allows for a comprehensive coverage of significant learning areas.
Every Level 1 NCEA subject comprises a Learning Matrix and four achievement standards, of which two are internally assessed and two are externally assessed. This framework is designed to aid educators in crafting cohesive teaching and learning programs that facilitate student engagement with the most significant aspects of the subject matter.
