Associate Professor Kuen-Yi Lin
Kuen-Yi Lin is an Associate Professor of Technology Education in the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development at National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. He teaches courses in Introduction to Technology Education, Communication Technology, Construction Technology, Instructional Strategies of Technology Education, and Facilities Planning to pre-service technology teachers and Industrial Technology students. Kuen-Yi received his PhD from National Taiwan Normal University in Technology Education in June, 2006. His primary research interests involve students’ learning processes in hands-on learning activities, and STEM. Kuen-Yi’s work is informed by his past experiences working as an assistant professor at HungKuang University and a secondary technology teacher.
Professor Cather Simpson
Professor Cather Simpson joined the University of Auckland’s Physics and Chemistry departments in 2007. She is founding director of the Photon Factory, a multi-user laser and microfabrication facility that provides advanced laser technology to all NZ researchers. She received her Ph.D. in the US, and after a DOE Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship, earned tenure at Case Western Reserve University. She is a Principal Investigator in the MacDiarmid Institute and the Dodd-Walls Centre, where she also serves on the Executive Committee. Recent awards include a NZ National Teaching Excellence Award and the 2016 Silicon Valley Forum first-place medal for Agtech. She was named the Baldwins Researcher Entrepreneur and the BNZ Supreme Award winner at the 2016 KiwiNet commercialisation awards. She is also a New Zealand Primary Industries Champion. She is the founding Chief Science Officer of Engender Technologies, and co-founding scientist of Orbis Diagnostics, both spin-offs from the Photon Factory.
Professor Kay Stables

Kay Stables is Emeritus Professor of Design Education at Goldsmiths, University of London. Kay started her career as a textiles teacher, joining Goldsmiths in 1986. A founder member of the Technology Education Research Unit (TERU), she has directed and contributed to projects in primary and secondary education in the UK and overseas. With Richard Kimbell, she authored the TERU retrospective; Research Design Learning (2007). More recently, together with Steve Keirl, she published Environment, Ethics and Cultures: Design and Technology Education’s contribution to sustainable global futures (2015) and (in press) Critique in Design and Technology Education with P. John Williams from Curtin University, Australia. Recent research has focused on design, creativity and sustainable development, digital tools in assessment (the e-scape project) and designerly well-being. Current research includes creating dialogic frameworks for supporting the development of Design and Technology capability in digital environments through the use of on-screen avatars.
Kay has a keen interest in international issues in Design and Technology education and she has been a visiting scholar at institutions in Australia Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and the USA. She is currently co-editor of Design and Technology Education: An international journal and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Technology Education.
During her time at Goldsmiths Kay has been Head of the Design Department (1995-1999 and 2009 – 2012), Head of the Art Department (2008), Acting Warden (CEO) (2004 – 2005) and Pro-Warden for Students (2000 – 2004).

Conference Session Descriptions
TENZ-ICTE 2017 is designed to promote constructive discussion about teaching and research in technology education.
In 2017 there will be three formats for conference sessions:
- research papers;
- practice papers, and
- workshops.
Research Paper Presentations
Research papers will present research related to aspects of learning and teaching technology that are of interest to technology researchers and teachers. We welcome papers that relate to the conference theme as well as papers addressing a range of other relevant aspects of technology education.
To be considered for a research paper presentation at the conference you need to submit an abstract that is relevant to technology education research. All abstracts submitted will be refereed and applicants will be notified if they are successful. Successful applicants will then be asked to submit a full paper for review. Accepted full papers will be published on the TENZ website.
Research paper presentations will be allocated 20 minutes.
Equipment: Presentation rooms will have a computer with PowerPoint installed and data projector. We suggest you bring your PowerPoint presentation on a USB thumb drive. For other hardware and software needs please bring your own laptop.

Practice papers will present ideas/approaches/strategies related to aspects of teaching and learning technology (e.g. planning, learning activities, assessment) that are of interest to technology teachers.
To be considered for a practice paper presentation at the conference you need to submit a proposal that is relevant to teaching/learning technology. All proposals submitted will be refereed and applicants will be notified if they are successful.
Practice paper presentations will be allocated 45 minutes. This includes 35 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Workshops will be allocated 90 minutes.
