Webinar: Effective Community Engagement for a Diverse Tech Workforce

STEM Alliance Aotearoa were proud to host a webinar during TechWeek 22. We invited four inspiring speakers to share the mahi they have been doing in their community, and how effective community engagement can support more rangatahi into tech careers. Sarah Washbrooke (TENZ) discussed how students should be the drivers of their own education and how she supports that in her technology teaching. She also shared how TENZ partners with a wide range of STEM organisations to provide resources, PLD and authentic learning opportunities for students. Nicole Lin (She#) shared how She# events and networking inspired her own career in tech. The organisation’s mission to bridge the gender employment gap continues to support young wahine around the country. Yvonne Mackinnon (Prospect School) and Chris Winder (Zeal) hosted a joint presentation on the West Tech Project. This is an impactful grassroots initiative set up by The Western Initiative to train ākonga in technology skills, so they can repair devices and give them back to their communities.
