A Taste of Innovation: Food Technology Teacher Day

TENZ, in collaboration with Massey University, is proud to offer a hands-on, future-focused professional development day designed to excite and empower secondary Food Technology teachers across Aotearoa.
This unique event is co-hosted and delivered by Massey’s internationally renowned Food Science team—giving you access to cutting-edge research, real-world processing equipment, and classroom-ready innovations.

FEAST Sensory Lab Tour Experience food through a new lens—literally! Explore sensory booths, perception experiments using lighting, aroma jars, eye-tracking and EEG technology, and even immersive mixed-reality experiences using HoloLens and Meta headsets.
FoodPilot Plant Tour Go behind the scenes of the largest pilot-scale food processing facility in the southern hemisphere. From concept to creation, see how food products are trialled, tested, and brought to market—perfect for connecting industry insights with curriculum delivery.
Food Innovation Challenge Led by Massey’s Food Science team, this workshop will introduce you to design thinking tools tailored for food product development. Test your creativity with a quick-fire challenge you can take straight back to your classroom.
Scaling Up Pikelet Production Turn a classic Kiwi recipe into a commercial-scale operation! Learn the process of converting a standard recipe into a formulation for mass production, and tackle the challenges of consistency, specification setting, and production constraints—all designed for easy classroom replication.
Resources + Goodie Bags The day will wrap up with a feedback session and an introduction to our online resource hub. Plus, every participant will take home a goodie bag filled with posters and tools to use in your teaching practice.
